With the launch of Girls Circle, we have decided to launch a brand new Youth Advisory Panel to guide our work and lead on gender equality actions and campaigns. We recruited young people aged between 14-21 who are passionate about gender equality and issues affecting girls to join our YAP. The panel meet on a monthly basis at a central location in Cardiff to undertake projects and actions to create positive change and making Wales a better place to grow up as a girl.
I’ve been interested in feminism and gender equality for quite a long time now and joining Full Circle’s Youth Advisory Panel has given me both the tools and opportunities to help raise awareness of gender equality in Wales and to help raise aspirations of girls and young people.
The Panel has been a fantastic opportunity for me as it’s allowed me to additionally explore my passion for the politics of gender equality and how to go about helping to make positive changes to society’s attitudes as politics is a big passion of mine and I hope to pursue a career within this in the future once I have completed my A-Levels.
I’m Millie, I’m 16 years old and I go to Radyr Comprehensive School. I am very passionate about watching good movies (the bar is very low) and I inhale a copious amount of books. I enjoy – both seeing and doing – art, taking photos, and watching good television (the bar is very high).
I have no idea what I want to be when I’m older, but my thoughts at the moment are either on going into politics or becoming a lecturer – something I can make a real and positive impact on the lives of others. I joined Girls Circle in the hope that one day women have as much confidence and respect in everyday life as men do!
My name’s Rianna and I’m 16 years old. I go to Radyr Comprehensive School and I’ll be joining the sixth form in September 2017. My favourite subjects are maths and the sciences but outside of school I spend my time drawing and painting, playing hockey and reading. I’m all about making the most of life and I’ve been very lucky with the opportunities I’ve received.
Hopefully, I can help Girls Circle positively impact the lives of others and give them the support that they need to reach their full potential!
My name is Miriam Butcher, and I am 15 years old, and I’m currently studying to achieve my GCSEs at Cardiff High School. I am studying German, Music, History and Triple Award Science on top of the compulsory GCSEs, with the hope of pursuing a career in Law after earning the necessary degree to do so.
I applied to join the Youth Advisory Panel due to my passion for social politics, especially that which affects the lives of young people. As someone who likes to contemplate the issues faced by society, it felt natural to become involved with the great opportunity presented to me by Full Circle and Girls Circle. I look forward to any future changes in society that I can help make a reality.
As well as being interested in politics, I am a lover of literature and music. I play both the violin and piano, which shows my love of achievement. I believe that being a member of this panel will help in achieving my goals in the future, which is why I am very grateful to have been accepted.
