Supporting schools and communities to empower, educate and elevate girls and young women using innovative projects and curriculum-based approaches.
Girls Circle supports girls and young women to reach their full potential, providing dynamic programmes and initiatives to empower, educate and elevate girls across England and Wales.
Girls Circle recognises the challenges and barriers that still exist for many girls and young women, including limiting gender stereotypes, sexism and inequality. These issues contribute to cycles of deprivation in our communities, passing from one generation to the next.
Girls who are limited by their gender in childhood and adolescence can become similarly constrained in adulthood, locked into low-paying jobs, unpaid caring roles, abusive relationships and lacking independence.
Girls Circle is a project of Full Circle Education, a social enterprise supporting the wellbeing of children and young people. In October 2016 Full Circle released the first Manifesto for Girls’ Rights in Wales, calling for greater attention and action to combat the many barriers girls and young women still face. Full Circle released a survey of over 600 young women across Wales, which found that most girls did not believe they had the same rights and opportunities as young men.
In 2016 our sister organisation, Full Circle Education launched a Manifesto for Girls’ Rights in Wales. A recommendation within the Manifesto was the development of a girl-focused initiative to offer much needed support and intervention to girls, and to provide education to boys and young men about key themes, including sexism, healthy relationships, consent and respect.
Our core programmes have three main aims:
Girls Circle aims to inspire all girls to know their worth, develop confidence and self-esteem, leadership skills, and aspirations for the future, acknowledging that girls and young women are deserving of the same rights and opportunities as boys and young men.
By creating equality for girls and young women we create equality for all, where each person can fulfil their potential, free from victimisation, limitation and suppression.
